Jack of all trades, King of none.

This is something that i’ve encountered many times, probably as much I have overthought about it. Maybe I haven’t had enough interest in it, probably lack of support? It necessarily doesn’t harm me till I bleed, but it sure is a hassle.

Acquiring skills, what for?

Me and my friends had spent 5 hours brainstorming learning how to use a Meta Quest 2 and designing games with Unity Hub and Blender (to help our college get a proper rating for ranks). VERY FUN! But… i’ve done it before. This isn’t the first time dealing with Unity Hub, or even Blender. But i’ve forgot all about them, using them as if i’ve witnessed it for the first time. I forgot, not because I have a memory of a goldfish, but because… I just never had to use them.

Why did I learn them, as well as many other skills… It struck me, I’m pretty well with circuit design and analog electronics. I also do 3D Printing very well! As an Electronics and Communication major, this actually helped. I’ve never forgotten then since the day I learnt it.

But what does all this lore have to do with you? Moral of the story, learn less, learn it the best. I’ve sacrificed countless hours learning aerodrome design and mass machine learning, and FINALLY I have landed a fascinating project with a university in Taiwan, all as a first year (going to my second). Am I going too fast? Probably. Should I go faster? Maybe not. But should I do better? Absolutely.

Don’t be the king of only one, but try to be the best of whatever you do!

That’s it for today,

Signing off.

I will say you are going great. First few years in college plus first few years in job are meant to f*ck around and learn a lot of things, and simultaneously figuring out what you want to do. One thing that I will ask you to keep in note is that you learn the things in depth when you are learning. That way, picking them up even after 5 years will not be so hard since you will have a neural path built specifically for that knowledge that just needs reawakening.
